Daniel Lloyd of Team DFL-Cyclingnews-Litespeed has recently finished the 2.HC ranked Tour of Qinghai Lake in China. He eventually finished in 2nd place overall, just one second behind Gabriele Missaglia, winner of a stage of the Tour of Italy and the HEW Classics World Cup in the past, and one place ahead of Francisco Mancebo.

The HIGH FIVE sponsored athlete was one of a group who went over 10 minutes clear on stage five to Xining to give him a brief spell in the yellow jersey. He unfortunately lost it the next day on time bonus but put up an aggressive race to try and reclaim the jersey until the very end.

Daniel Fleeman, another HIGH FIVE sponsored athlete, also riding for Team DFL featured well within the nine day race, riding mostly in support of his team leader, eventually finishing 22nd overall.

Both athletes have been very impressed by the benefits of using HIGH FIVE products and have both commented on how much stronger they feel at the end of races and training by using HIGH FIVE SUPERCARBS.

Daniel Lloyd followed up his excellent second overall in the Tour of Qinghai Lake last month with an epic ride in the re-scheduled British Elite’s Men’s Road Race Championships to take the silver medal, once again finishing runner up by a single second this time to David Millar (Saunier Duval-Prodir).

Lloyd was one of the big engines of the race helping to forge one attack after another until finally getting away with Millar at the Newcastle section of the loop at Abergavenny with still 7 circuits to complete.

Despite the best efforts of the strong field the pair were never brought back and as the gap widened to over a minute and a half with just a handful of kilometres to go, it was clear that Lloyd and Millar would be head to head in the contest for the top step of the podium:

“David was incredibly strong when he launched his attack at the start and I was lucky to be able to go with him,” said Lloyd “then the pace settled down and we worked well together. I got the feeling that as the race went on I was actually the stronger rider so I put in a big attack with about 1km to go and it took David a while to get back”

When the Scotsman had got back onto the wheel again however it was clear that it would come down to the sprint into the final corner;

“David is a class act and he showed it by getting to that corner first…ah well!” commented a rueful Lloyd while drinking his HIGH FIVE protein recovery shake!

Daniel will now concentrate on keeping his excellent form for the inaugural Tour of Ireland before returning to the U.K. to spearhead the challenge of the DFL-Cyclingnews-Litespeed squad in the 2007 Tour of Britain.
