Jan 08 - High Five at the national cyclo cross championships.

High Five recently supported the National Cyclo Cross Championships, which featured over 420 riders competing for the national title across various categories. The championships returned to the familiar surroundings of Sutton Park in Birmingham over the weekend of 5th and 6th January 2008. .

High Five was pleased to be the official nutritional sponsor for the event, fuelling all the riders with our award winning high carb energy gels. The youth riders were also equipped with our drinks bottles.

With large crowds present over both days, action came thick and fast. Day one saw four riders crowned champion for their category in an exciting days racing at Sutton Park. The Veterans Over 50 Championship was won by Roy Hunt whilst in the next race, the Youth Championship, Luke Gray crossed the line first. It was then the turn of the Under 23 Men to do battle and Ian Bibby was the victor of this event for the second year in a row. The final race of the day saw Stephen Knight win the right to wear the champions jersey in the Veterans 40-49 Championship.

Day 2 of the championships saw two very close battles, in the Elite Men's race, where Liam Killeen and Roger Hammond repeated their ding-dong battle of two year's ago, and in the Junior race where Andrew Williams and Alex Paton thrilled the big crowd with a race-long battle. The Women's title was settled in a more one-sided race, but there was still plenty to enjoy as Helen Wyman pitched her international class against the best of the rest.
