21 subjects who participated in the test were a mix of experienced competitive cyclists and Ironman Triathletes. The athletes were randomly split into 2 groups defined by coloured bands for each week of the test and each group was given a different product for that week. The following week, drinks were rotated. Independent time trial timing was undertaken and all athletes completed a standard GI questionnaire after each test. Weather was consistent over the duration of the study with data taken from the nearby Sydney weather station. Data was not modified to account for the weather, the preceding weeks training load, diet or other variable. Athletes were only excluded from the test if they reported pre test illness or through mechanical failure. Athletes were also told not to make any changes in bike set-up from one week to the next.
